30 April – 2 May 2014: Professional Development Block Course for School Maths Teachers

Ten upper secondary school maths teachers from the North Island attended the 3-day professional development block course "Critical Mathematics Education" run by Associate Professor Sergiy Klymchuk. On completion the participants received Certificate of Achievement.

The content of the course is below:

1)      Counterexamples in mathematics as a teaching/learning approach

2)      Paradoxes and sophisms in the teaching and learning of mathematics

3)      Puzzle-based learning as a pedagogical strategy

4)      Attention or 'discipline of noticing' and provocations in mathematics

5)      Mistakes in mathematics textbooks as a teaching and learning resource

6)      Misuses of mathematics in everyday life as a teaching and learning resource
