07 April 2019: Representing AUT at the Super STEM Fair at MOTAT Museum

Eleven members of STEM-TEC attended the Super STEM Fair at MOTAT as part of the AUT team. Nine members did activities and demonstrations: Jordan Alexander, Robin Hankin, Sergiy Klymchuk, David White, Jeff Nijsse, Loulin Huang, Willem van Straten, Mahsa Mohaghegh and Chris Whittington. Two other members attended and supported: Sergei Gulyaev and David Wilson. The event focused on promotion of and engagement with science and technology for school students and their parents. Our activities included: presenting presented a range of exciting autonomous robots including the very popular Anki Cozmo; solving hands-on mind-bending range of mathematics puzzles; showcasing examples of astronomy and physics - frying things with sunlight and a large lense, plus engaging visitors with the force accelerometer; demos of specialised breathing masks, amazing 3D bio scanning and 3D printed faces; experiencing augmented reality and virtual reality applications; demo of several hundred watts static electricity on the Van de Graaff generator - a real photo opportunity for parents and a hit on social media.  The fair was a big success with 2000+ visitors most of whom attended the AUT site.
